An Associates of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or high, majoring in sciences with chemistry and possessing a strong mechanical aptitude is preferred.

Position Summary:
Position supports laboratory, plant and field chemistry operations in all aspects of chemical and physical analysis and testing. Requires expertise in general water treatment chemistry, analytical and instrumental chemistry, power plant systems and plant environmental permits. Position will work directly with plant operations to enhance availability, reliability and help to ensure low operating costs.
Essential Responsibilities: Percent of Time
a) Collect and prepare samples, standards and reagents for testing and analysis. Perform analysis and testing incorporating standard QA/QC practices to ensure confidence within the results generated. 40%
b) Maintain and inventory of all bulk water treatment chemicals to ensure 24/7 continuous operation of the plant. This includes boiler operation, demineralizer and cooling tower treatments.20%
c) Interface directly with plant operations to ensure plant chemistry operation is being maintained within specified limits or governmental regulations15%
d) Maintain all online steam cycle chemistry instrumentation. 10%
e) Review online process instrumentation for process control. Correct out of control areas by direct involvement or interfacing with other departments such as engineering or instrument control. 5%
f) Perform physical coal sampling metrics to ensure coal pulverizer operations are within plant specifications.5%
g) Maintain orderly and neat laboratory to maintain health and safety.3%
h) Perform other chemical or physical duties as assigned.2%
Minimum Requirements:
Associate college degree in science, or 4-5 years previous chemical laboratory experience, or 1-2 years college background in chemistry with 1-2 years chemical laboratory experience required. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint required. Must be able to work overtime, holidays and weekends as required.
